AEP Ohio Relaunches Appliance Recycling Program: Saves Energy, Money
GAHANNA, Ohio, Aug. 25, 2016 – AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), is inviting its customers to recycle outdated refrigerators or freezers and receive a $50 incentive through its recently relaunched Appliance Recycling Program.
AEP Ohio customers who participate in the Appliance Recycling Program can have inefficient refrigerators and freezers picked up free of charge. In addition to the $50 incentive, participants can save as much as $150 annually through lower household energy usage.
“We know our customers want to save energy and money. This program helps them do that,” said Deanna Gilliland, program manager, AEP Ohio. “It’s as easy as choosing a time for free pickup.”
Older, outdated refrigerators and freezers consume 2-3 times more energy than newer, more efficient ones. This is especially true if the refrigerator or freezer being taken out of service was manufactured before 1990.
AEP Ohio customers who want their older refrigerators or freezers picked up for recycling can call 1-866-899-9862 or visit AEPOhio.com/Recycle. Refrigerators and freezers must be empty, in working condition and 10-32 cubic feet in size. A $50 VISA prepaid gift card will arrive by mail within 6-8 weeks. A maximum of two units per household per calendar year will be accepted.
ARCA Recycling Inc., an appliance recycler, will pick up and recycle refrigerators and freezers, recycling 95 percent of the unit and properly disposing of chemicals.
