What You Need to Know

• Severe storms are likely across Ohio this afternoon and evening.
• Numerous wind gusts reaching 60-70 mph and tornadoes are possible.

• We strongly encourage customers with medical issues and life-supporting equipment to have a backup power source and an alternate plan in the event of a power outage. 

SITUATION OVERVIEW

AEP meteorologists are monitoring a broken line of severe thunderstorms that are expected to reach Ohio this afternoon, becoming more scattered as they move east into the evening. Damaging winds with gusts up to 60-70 mph are likely and tornadoes are possible. Another round of severe storms is possible again on Thursday. We encourage customers to check their local forecast for the latest updates on timing and intensity.

SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY REMINDERS

As our crews prepare for the latest incoming weather, you can prepare yourself and your loved ones by following these tips: 

• Assemble or refresh an emergency kit that includes (at minimum) non-perishable food, water, a flashlight, batteries, a battery-powered radio, a first aid kit, any necessary medications, portable chargers, extra cash, blankets, warm clothes and maps of your area. If you have pets, include the food and medication they need, too.
• Develop and review an emergency preparedness plan for you and your family. Decide now what you’ll do if there’s an extended power outage. Also, contact family, friends and neighbors who are elderly or have medical conditions.
• Secure any loose objects outside of your home such as furniture, umbrellas or trampolines that could become airborne in strong winds.

Stay as far away as possible from all downed lines and anything they may be touching. Call 911 and AEP Ohio at 800-672-2231 to report any safety hazards.
