The U.S. Department of Energy, SB Energy and AEP Ohio have announced planned multi-billion-dollar investments in advanced digital and energy infrastructure to support data center growth and drive economic development in Appalachian Ohio.

AEP Ohio crews and field personnel are actively restoring power to about 2,300 customers after severe thunderstorms crossed the state. While outages are scattered, the majority are in western and northeastern Ohio. 

AEP Ohio filed an update at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) showing that its Data Center Tariff is working as designed to ensure new infrastructure investments are right-sized and all costs are allocated to data centers, protecting residential, commercial and industrial customers across Ohio.

AEP Ohio representatives have announced plans to upgrade the electric transmission grid and improve reliability for customers in Meigs and Athens counties.

AEP Ohio today filed an agreement at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to decrease electricity distribution rates for its customers. The settlement, which must be approved by the PUCO, would decrease distribution rates by $58.7 million overall. The average AEP Ohio residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month would see their electric distribution bill drop by $1.22 per month.
