GAHANNA, Ohio — AEP Ohio representatives have announced plans to upgrade the electric transmission grid in Gallia County and improve reliability for area customers.
The Chickamauga-Addison 138kV Transmission Line Project involves:
- Rebuilding about 4 miles of 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line between Haners Station off Bulaville Pike in Gallipolis Township and Addison Station along Georges Creek Road in Addison Township.
- Building Chickamauga Station along McCormick Road in Green Township.
- Building less than a mile of 138-kV line between Haners and Chickamauga stations.
- Upgrading Haners Station.
- Rebuilding Addison Station adjacent to existing station.
The existing line has aging and deteriorating equipment from the 1960s. Rebuilding the line with modern equipment brings the system up to current standards, reduces the likelihood of extended outages and helps restore power faster when outages occur. The planned improvements also create looped service by providing an additional source of electricity. In the event a line experiences an outage or needs maintenance, the other line can continue to serve customers. This project is unrelated to other proposed power grid upgrades needed to support data centers in the area.
Community members are invited to an open house to learn more and share input, particularly on study segments under consideration for the proposed line route between Haners and Chickamauga stations. The public event takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at the Quality Inn Gallipolis Meeting Room, 577 State Route 7 North, Gallipolis, OH, 45631. There is no formal presentation, so attendees can arrive any time during the event.
Landowners and community members who can’t attend may visit a virtual open house at AEPOhio.com/Chickamauga-Addison to access project information, view an interactive map and submit comments.
AEP Ohio representatives encourage landowners to provide input to help the company determine a final proposed power line route that minimizes impacts to the community and environment. Comments are accepted until Friday, Oct. 2.
