E3 Smart STEM Program

AEP Ohio is proud to partner with Ohio Energy Project (OEP) to bring the e3 Smart program to schools across our service territory, supporting STEM and energy efficiency education in our local communities. The e3 Smart program brings energy efficiency to life in the classroom through dynamic programming, including a series of hands-on labs and activities. The innovative school-to-home approach connects textbook science with real-world experiences for learners in grades 4-12. The program is a science-based study of all things energy and is designed to meet Ohio's Learning Standards for classroom instruction.

Students in the program take home a free energy efficiency kit to implement their learnings — teaching their families, friends and communities about the importance of energy conservation. The e3 Smart program is made possible through funding from the energy efficiency rider included in AEP Ohio's Electric Security Plan, approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).

Program Benefits and Details

Working with our partner, Ohio Energy Project, AEP Ohio is proud to provide the following program and benefits to participating schools within our service area at no cost.

An interactive training workshop for participating teachers reviewing all provided materials with curriculum development staff.
An energy efficiency curriculum, including lesson plans, background information, and classroom labs and activities, all aligned to Ohio's Learning Standards, grades 4-12.
All hands-on lab equipment necessary to carry out the curriculum as designed.
Access to online resources with home activities that reinforce lessons and help educate the entire family.
Energy efficiency kits for each student, full of curriculum-related items, like LED bulbs, faucet aerators, weather stripping, etc., to help students kick-start their energy-efficient behavior at home.
Access to free online resources that reinforce lessons and spark interactions with students' friends and families.
Ongoing school-year support.
