A Virtual Home Energy Savings Walkthrough can help you understand how much energy your home uses and evaluate what steps you can take to improve efficiency. During the appointment, a professionally trained energy advisor will guide you through your home over a video call and gather information on your home, including insulation and air sealing, heating, cooling, hot water equipment, windows, thermostats, lighting, shower heads, aerators and more. Based on what you share, the advisor will identify energy-saving opportunities and provide personalized recommendations you can start using right away.

A Virtual Home Energy Savings Walkthrough is available annually to residential homeowners or renters who receive an electric bill directly from AEP Ohio. Homes do not have to be all electric to qualify for the no-cost virtual home walkthrough. Commercial customers are not eligible.

Each residential account can have a Virtual Home Energy Savings Walkthrough completed once per year.

Prior to the start of your appointment, please make sure to have:

  1. Access to your heating/cooling equipment, basement, and attic (which may require a step ladder).
  2. A strong Wi-Fi or cell connection and a fully charged battery on the device you plan to use for the walkthrough.
  3. A way to take notes.
  4. A flashlight (separate from the one on the device you will use).

Yes, you will receive an energy report via email to review after the walkthrough is complete.

AEP Ohio's Virtual Home Energy Savings Walkthrough does not include replacement of anything identified in the home, however it can provide information to help you prioritize which home improvements would provide the most benefit for your home and energy costs. No energy efficiency items are provided through the program.

The virtual walkthrough program is intended to educate the customer about what is using the most energy in their home and what upgrades would provide the most benefit and energy savings for them.

The virtual walkthrough will focus on the 10 key areas of the home to include, but not limited to: attic insulation, duct systems, air sealing, wall Insulation, lighting, heating and cooling systems, appliances and electronics, water heating, refrigerator, and windows and doors. AEP Ohio's goal is to make you aware of how much energy is being used in your home and what you can do to reduce your energy consumption.

Yes, you will connect with your advisor virtually via smart phone or another smart device. During this time, you will walk the advisor through your home to review various equipment and appliances, insulation levels, lighting and review areas known for air infiltration.
