AEP Ohio Announces Transmission Line Rebuild Project in Eastern Columbus

April 25, 2023

AEP Ohio has scheduled an open house to discuss upgrading transmission line infrastructure in eastern Columbus.

The Morse-Gahanna-East Broad Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves rebuilding about 9 miles of 138-kilovolt transmission line and upgrading five area substations. Company representatives plan to rebuild most of the power line in or near the existing right-of-way, which may involve acquiring new or updating existing property easements.

The project strengthens the electric transmission system by replacing aging wooden H-frame structures from the 1950s with modern single steel poles. The existing transmission line has experienced eight service interruptions since 2015 and does not meet AEP engineering standards. These upgrades improve operational performance, reduce the likelihood of extended power outages and enhance electric reliability for area customers.

Company officials are hosting an in-person open house and a virtual open house and invite community members and landowners to learn more and share input.

Date: Tuesday, April 26

Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Gahanna Middle School East Cafeteria

730 Clotts Road, Columbus, Ohio, 43230

The events do not include a formal presentation, so attendees can arrive at any time to review area maps and talk with company representatives.
