AEP Ohio Evaluates the Feasibility of New Electric Transmission Routes in Delaware and Licking Counties

April 4, 2023

As new energy-intensive businesses locate to the area, additions to the power grid in Delaware and Licking counties are needed to connect customers and maintain reliability. AEP Ohio plans two open houses in early May to gather community feedback to help identify routes for potential power lines needed to meet the power demand.

The first electrical upgrade the company is exploring involves constructing a new 345-kilovolt transmission line between Vassell Substation near Sunbury and new electric facilities near Green Chapel Road in New Albany.

While company officials are evaluating a potential path for the new power line, they will also collect information to identify a separate power line corridor to support future electric demand. The study area for the prospective lines includes Monroe, Jersey and Hartford townships in Licking County, Berkshire, Harlem and Trenton townships in Delaware County, Plain Township in Franklin County, along with parts of New Albany and Johnstown.

Company officials are hosting two in-person open houses and a virtual open house and invite community members and landowners to learn more and share input, particularly on possible power line routes options. The same information will be available at each open house.

Date: Tuesday, May 2

Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The events do not include a formal presentation, so attendees can arrive at any time to review area maps and talk with company representatives. Information gathered during the open houses helps determine a proposed solution, including any new power line routes.
