GAHANNA, Ohio — AEP Ohio is planning improvements to the electric system in Allen County to help meet growing power needs in the area.
The Lyka Transmission Project includes building:
- An electric facility, Lyka Substation, on customer-owned property between North West and North Cole streets in Sugar Creek Township.
- About 4 miles of 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission power line to connect the new substation to an existing transmission line in Sugar Creek Township.
The project will provide electric service to a new customer facility. That customer will pay for the cost of the connection from Lyka Station to their site. The upgrades also will add capacity to support future growth and economic development in the area.
Landowners and community members are invited to an open house to learn more about the project and share input, particularly on study segments under consideration for the new power lines. The public event takes place on Wednesday, May 6, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center - South Hall, 7 Town Square, Lima, OH 45801. There is no formal presentation, so attendees can arrive at any time during the event.
Those who can’t attend may visit a virtual open house at AEPOhio.com/Lyka to get project details, view an interactive map and submit comments by Wednesday, May 20.
AEP Ohio encourages landowners to provide input to help the company determine a final proposed power line route that minimizes impacts to the community and environment. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2027 and finish by fall 2028.
