AEP Ohio to Host Open House to Discuss Planned Power Grid Upgrades in Madison County

April 20, 2026

GAHANNA, Ohio — AEP Ohio is planning improvements to the electric system in Madison County to help meet growing power needs in the area.

The Patina-Mirkwood Transmission Project includes:

  • Building two electric facilities, also known as substations:
    • Patina Station, near Rosedale-Plain City Road and State Route 38
    • Mirkwood Station, near State Route 161 and Cemetery Pike
  • Installing two 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission power lines between the two stations, stretching about 11 miles.
  • Making upgrades that connect AEP Ohio’s system and customer equipment to the electric grid.

The project will provide electric service to a new customer facility. That customer will pay for the cost of the connection from Mirkwood Station to their site. The upgrades also will add capacity to support future growth and economic development in the area.

Landowners and community members are invited to an open house to learn more and share input, particularly on study segments under consideration for the new power lines. The public event takes place on Thursday, April 30, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 670 W. Main St., Plain City, OH 43064. There is no formal presentation, so attendees can arrive at any time during the event.

Landowners and community members who can’t attend may visit a virtual open house at AEPOhio.com/Patina-Mirkwood to access project information, view an interactive map and submit comments by Friday, May 15.

AEP Ohio representatives encourage landowners to provide input to help the company determine a final proposed power line route that minimizes impacts to the community and environment. Company officials expect construction to begin in early 2027 and conclude by late 2029.
