Electric Bill Payment Assistance Available for AEP Ohio Customers Through Neighbor to Neighbor Program

March 26, 2026

GAHANNA, Ohio — AEP Ohio is encouraging customers who have fallen behind on their bills to apply for the Neighbor to Neighbor program. The program provides utility assistance grants that are applied directly to customers’ electric bills.

When costs are rising for many necessities, higher than expected electric bills can put a strain on household budgets. Through a partnership between AEP Ohio and Dollar Energy Fund, the Neighbor to Neighbor program supports customers in need with a grant applied directly to their AEP Ohio account to maintain or restore their electric service. Assistance is available once per program year on a first-come, first-served basis. Grants are dispersed to eligible applicants while funding is available.

“Assistance funds are available now and can help. If you’ve fallen behind on your electric bill, we are here to support you. Please reach out to our team to talk through your options,” said Deanna Gilliland, manager of consumer and energy efficiency programs at AEP Ohio.

Dollar Energy Fund is a private nonprofit organization that relies on the generosity of individual donors to fulfill its mission. AEP Ohio matches every dollar donated to the Neighbor to Neighbor program, giving these tax-deductible donations twice the impact. Individuals can support the Neighbor to Neighbor program by donating through their AEP Ohio bills or online. Since AEP Ohio and Dollar Energy Fund launched the program in May 2009, more than $18.5 million in assistance has been provided across more than 70,000 customer grants.

HOW TO APPLY
Households may be eligible for up to a $350 grant. To apply, customers may complete an application online or visit a community agency to submit it in person. Customers are limited to one Neighbor to Neighbor grant per program year. Eligibility guidelines and application instructions can be found at AEPOhio.com/N2N.
