AEP OHIO RECOGNIZES REYNOLDSBURG CITY SCHOOLS FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO ENERGY EFFICIENCY

November 25, 2019

GAHANNA, Ohio, NOVEMBER 25, 2019 – AEP Ohio, an American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) company, presented Reynoldsburg City Schools with a check for over $440,000 for their commitment to energy efficiency.

In October 2017, Reynoldsburg City Schools collaborated with AEP Ohio’s Efficient Products for Business Program along with Dynamix Energy Services to develop and implement a district-wide energy conservation project. The project targeted varying degrees of energy conservation measures at 14 buildings within the district and the high school sports stadium. Initiatives such as interior and exterior LED lighting upgrades, major HVAC renovations and complete district-wide controls and building automation replacement were put into place as a part of this project. Improvements occurred at Hannah Ashton Middle School, Reynoldsburg High School, Taylor Road Elementary School and Waggoner Road Junior High School.

"We are impressed with the tremendous dollar savings that Dynamix Energy Services is helping our district generate each month,” said Reynoldsburg City Schools Superintendent Melvin Brown. “Our students, staff and the community all benefit from the improvements and incentives that AEP Ohio provided to our district. This is community collaboration at its best.”

Energy efficiency measures are expected to minimize long-term maintenance costs and utility bills for the school district. Four months after implementation, the district saw over $250,000 in savings, and it is estimated that they will see an annual savings of $600,000 and energy savings of 6.5 million kilowatt-hours.

“AEP Ohio always values the opportunity to give back to our schools,” said Tracie Campbell, program manager with AEP Ohio’s Energy Efficiency Programs. “Without a doubt, the district will see benefit for years to come.”

AEP Ohio has exceeded Energy Efficiency/Peak Demand Reduction goals each year since 2009 producing the following estimated benefits from the portfolio of programs: saving customers 4,820 gigawatt-hours and over $2.0 billion; creating green jobs; reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 3.7 million tons; and reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by 17,600 tons.

Reynoldsburg City Schools Director of Operations and Services Chris Reed said, “As a result of this successful venture, we are providing kiosks at every school that will display energy savings in real-time. These displays show the savings that the district, as well as each individual school, have accumulated. The dashboards will keep a running total so that we can remind our greater school community that we have implemented an environmentally responsible and sustainable program for the future."

AEP Ohio offers a variety of additional Energy Efficiency programs to help residential and business customers save energy and money. For more information, visit AEPOhio.com/Save (residential) or AEPOhio.com/Solutions (business).
