GAHANNA, Ohio, October 11, 2019 – AEP Ohio, an American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) company, presented the Chillicothe City School District with an incentive check for $38,531 on Monday, September 23 in recognition of the district’s commitment to energy efficiency.

Between 2016 and 2019, the Chillicothe Board of Education worked with AEP Ohio and design partners SHP Leading Design and Summit Construction to incorporate energy efficient measures into the design of two new school buildings. The district took advantage of AEP Ohio’s New Construction program to improve building standards with energy efficient lighting, lighting controls and high efficiency cooling equipment that will help minimize heat loss and infiltration.

The energy efficiency measures are expected to minimize long-term maintenance costs and utility bills for the school district. It’s estimated that the district will see an annual savings of more than $40,000 and more than 400,000 kWh per year as a result of the incentives.

“We chose to participate because we felt energy efficient systems made sense when building new schools. Our design partner modeled various scenarios and selected lighting and HVAC systems that fit our construction budget and also earned rebate incentives from AEP Ohio,” said Steve Mullins, school board president, Chillicothe City Schools. “Chillicothe City Schools will be using these buildings for many years, and having a school that consumes as little energy as possible also helps reduce long-term operational costs for the district.”

Since 2008, AEP Ohio’s energy efficiency programs have saved customers 4,835 total GWhs and more than $2 billion in energy costs, creating green jobs, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 3.8 million tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by 16,800 tons.
