Doris Francis of Gahanna, Ohio, is the winner of the $10,000 ENERGY STAR appliance giveaway featured at the recently held Central Ohio Home and Garden Show. AEP Ohio was the presenting sponsor of the event, which honored Columbus’ 200th birthday.

AEP Ohio customers who visited the event were invited to stop by the AEP Ohio booth, pick up a “birthday card” and search out ENERGY STAR appliances wrapped as presents and strategically placed throughout the show, then return the completed card to the AEP Ohio booth to enter the drawing. Francis’ name was drawn from more than 1400 entries vying for the prize package.
Francis, a spry 84-year-old who still does all her own yard work, has been a regular visitor of the home show for many years.
“I am so shocked at winning the prize. Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” Francis said. “But I can certainly use new appliances. Most of my appliances are at least 25 years old.”
About 11,000 people visited AEP Ohio’s Home Energy Savings Tour (HEST) booth as well as the gridSMART® from AEP Ohio mobile to learn ways to save money and reduce their energy use by purchasing ENERGY STAR® qualified products.
