Southern Ohio Area Improvement Project
AEP plans to reinforce transmission system in southern Ohio area
In response to the continued growth and development occurring throughout its southern Ohio territory, American Electric Power plans to install additional transmission capacity and construct a new double circuit 138,000-volt transmission line to reinforce the company’s transmission system.

This project includes installation of two new 345/138 kilovolt (kV) transformers and the construction of a new double circuit 138 kV transmission line from the company’s Don Marquis station near Piketon, Ohio to the existing Lick-Waverly 138 kV line that runs between Waverly and Jackson, Ohio. Specifically, the new line is designed to prevent the overloading of critical facilities and provide sufficient capacity for future growth and development in an area where electrical demand is growing at a rate of 1.4 percent annually.

In conjunction with this reinforcement project, additional improvements are planned for existing facilities that feed this system. The total project cost is estimated at $32 million. Construction of the double circuit 138 kV line is scheduled to begin in summer 2008 and projected to be in service in summer 2009.
