AEP Ohio To Help Ohio Families In Need Pay Electric Bill, Save Energy
$5 Million Contribution Part of Long-Term AEP Partnership with Ohio
Ohio families served by AEP will be eligible for immediate help in paying their electric bills, and as many as 20,000 families will receive help in lowering their costs for electric power this winter season through a “Crisis Response Fund” and the distribution of home weatherization kits announced today by AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), and the Ohio Department of Development.

More than 95 Percent of AEP Ohio Customers Affected by Hurricane Ike Have Been Restored
Since 6 a.m. today, approximately 95 percent of AEP Ohio customers who lost power following the aftermath of Hurricane Ike have been restored. Nearly 700,000 customers across the company´s service territory were affected by the devastating winds. More than 3,000 field resources continue their efforts this morning to restore power to the approximate 34,000 customers who remain without power across the state.

AEP Ohio Customers Affected by Hurricane Ike Continue to be Restored
AEP Ohio customers who lost power following the aftermath of Hurricane Ike continue to be restored throughout the day today. Since this morning close to 20,000 customers have had their power turned back on. More than 3,000 field resources, including line mechanics, contract line crews, tree trimmers, crew leaders and field assessors continue their efforts to restore power to the approximate 57,000 customers who remain without power across Ohio.

Customers urged to remind family members, especially children
AEP Ohio urges customers to remember that there are still areas in its service territory where there are trees that have fallen onto power lines and other areas where there are downed power lines. Every downed power line should be considered energized and the public is urged to stay away from those sites.

Just over 100,000 AEP Ohio customers remain without power, as of 4 p.m. today. Following the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, nearly 700,000 customers were without power at the height of the storm. To date, approximately 85 percent of customers affected have been restored.

AEP Ohio Continues Focus on Restoration Efforts across Ohio More than 3,000 employee and contract personnel helping to restore service
No doubt, Sunday’s strong winds dropping tree limbs and entire trees into power lines is a primary culprit for the massive power outages being experienced by AEP Ohio customers. According to company officials, the numerous fallen trees and broken tree limbs that resulted from the high winds continue to have a major impact on efforts to restore services throughout the state.

More than 435,000 AEP Ohio customers have had their electricity service restored this afternoon since a devastating wind storm swept across the state throughout the day on Sunday. AEP Ohio Applies General Criteria To Service Restoration Procedures
Hazards, critical services receive priority restoration status
In the wake of the severe windstorm that left more than 650,000 customers without electricity at its peak, AEP Ohio knows its customers have questions about the processes and procedures the company follows to restore power during and after a major storm.
In all outages, AEP Ohio works to restore power as safely and quickly as possible. However, outages that occur during storm events often are extended and can last for several days due to damage to all facilities located in the area hit by the storm.

AEP Ohio Makes Progress in Restoration Efforts across Ohio
AEP Ohio has restored power to approximately 152,000 customers of the peak 650,000 customers across its service territory impacted by Sunday´s high winds from Hurricane Ike. An estimated 493,000 customers remain without power this morning. AEP Ohio is working to restore power to all parts of the service territory, focusing first on emergency services and main-line circuits that serve the largest number of customers.

PUCO confirms order for AEP to purchase Mon Power’s Ohio assets from Allegheny Energy
American Electric Power, through its Columbus Southern Power (CSP) utility subsidiary, announced today that the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) ruled that CSP can move forward with its purchase of Allegheny Energy’s Ohio service territory for approximately $45 million. In addition, CSP will pay Allegheny $10 million associated with the termination of certain litigation.
